Welcome!
If you're wanting to apply for a job at J's Lawns, please read this entire page.
Expectations
Working at J’s Lawns is not difficult, but you must be able to work fast with attention to detail for a long period of time. You need to be able to push a lawn mower for 10 hours a day, and simultaneously have the mental fortitude to never cut corners. We aim for perfection on each lawn, and you’ll need to be able to use your mind on the go as each lawn is slightly unique.
The hours for working at this company are 8-10 hours/day from Tuesday – Friday (35-40h/week). In the case of rain on any of these days, you must be able to work on Saturday and Sunday to finish the remaining lawns. 90% of the time we finish on Friday, but in the case of rain you will be required to work Saturday/Sunday.
This is a seasonal job from mid-April until October, but if you want winter work we can provide you with a snow route.
If you are honest, hard-working, able to work 35-40 hours, have a flexible schedule, and can shoulder some responsibility, then J’s Lawns wants you!
(We work in the SW / SE of Calgary, if you live in the North think about whether the distance is too much)
Why work here
This is not an average lawn company. We want our clients and employees to be happy. We make our clients happy by doing a perfect job on their lawn; we try to make our employees happy by giving you the freedom to enjoy your work day, offering rewards and promotions when you prove your worth, and by giving you a good wage as well as a percentage of company profits.
If you work hard for us, I appreciate the hell out of you. J’s Lawns has 4 ranks, and as you progress through the ranks you earn more and more. Read the ranks section below for more details.
Some of the perks of working at a lawn company in general are: a good workout, good pay, it’s somewhat meditative to go back and forth with the mower, learn about engines, customer relations and working in a team, and best of all you can increase your knowledge of various subjects by listening to podcasts or e-books as you work. I’ve learned a lot about the financial system, business, law, and whatever Rogan is on about while mowing lawns, for instance.
